Instructions:
Take it in turns to create your own sentences using the modal verbs from the list. Come and write your sentences up on the board!

1. Which modal verbs/sentences refer to:
- Ability
- Obligation/advice
- Permission

Instructions:
Work in partners to fill in the blanks with either can, could, can't or couldn't. When you're finished, feedback your answers to the class!
Things to think about:
If you come across any unfamiliar words, ask you teacher what they mean! Keep a vocabulary bank in the back of your notebook with any new words you learn.
Activity 3 - Modal verb pirate game
Instructions:
Get into pairs and fill in the blanks on screen with either can, could, must, might, would or should. For every correct answer you get a point! Who will be the winning team?

Activity - Role-play
Instructions:
Get into pairs and create a role-play using as many modal verbs as you can! Your teacher will give you different role-play scenarios to improvise with.
Things to think about:
- What kind of character are you?
- Why is your character in this situation?
- What is the relationship between the two characters?
- Does your character have any certain abilities or obligations?
- Is your character asking for permission?
