Oct 14th

Hi Mathis, Cami and Louis!

My name is Jemima, and I'm your new teacher. Today we're going to do some storytelling!

Activity 1 - Verbal story game

Instructions:
Close your eyes and pick a random piece of paper out of the hat. Create your very own short story based on the word written on the paper. Be as imaginative as you like!

Things to think about:

  • What kind of character/s are you going to choose?
  • Is your story going to be funny, sad, happy...?
  • Will it have a happy or a sad ending?

Activity 2 - Reading exercise

It's time to read a story! Follow the link to read 'Rocky's Long Walk', a story about a dog who gets very lost: http://issuu.com/eslreading/docs/rocky/1?e=0

Instructions:
Go round the class and take it in turns to read out loud. Once you've all finished reading, answer the following questions about the story -

1. Which animal is Rocky chasing at the beginning of the story?
2. Where does Becky live?
3. Where is San Diego?
4. When Rocky runs away the second time, where does he go?
5. How many miles does Becky have to travel to collect her dog in the end?

Activity 3 - Halloween flashcard game

It's time to get in the Halloween spirit! Follow the link to see the Halloween flashcards and invent your own story based on the pictures: http://www.mes-english.com/flashcards/files/halloween1_flash.pdf

Instructions:
Go round the class and take it in turns to create and develop your own imaginative story. You should carry on the story from where the last person left off (only with the addition of a new scary character!)

Things to think about:

  • What is your story going to be about?
  • Are there going to be any sudden 'twists'?
  • What genre is the story going to be?
